Review: A great little bell fits well and has a lovely resonance, a vast improvement on the stock Brompton bell.

Review: The important thing with these little ping bells is that they should be heard. This one is the second loudest I've tried, after the ultra-cheap Zefal bell which rings loudly once and then its plastic hammer goes limp and has to be left to recover. The action on this bell is good and gives a double ring. But there are serious problems. The plastic clip for fixing it to the handlebars is small and has very little range of adjustment. It fits the thin steel handlebars of old-fashioned bikes but won't go round the wider alloy bars of modern ones. I solved this problem by carefully heating the band with a gas flame and pulling it out a bit. There is a plastic rim under the metal bell, like a saucer, heaven knows why. When rained on it fills with water and the bell stops ringing and emits only a sloshy rattle. I solved this by making two holes in the bottom with a heated wire. So I now have a good loud bell. But why did I have to mess around with it? The design needs a good rethink.
