Description: In some situations people simply need more hand positions. Employing the much proven ergonomic grip body of the GP1 the GP5 introduces a hollow formed composite reinforced ergonomically shaped bar end. Featuring rubberized inserts for positive grip like all of Ergon’s bar ends it can be independently positioned relative to the grip and acts as the clamp preventing accidental rotation. The grip itself is available in two sizes. The GP5 is Ergon's largest barend offering. Barend size multi-position 110mm Barend made of lightweight Nylon-Composite GFK with rubber inserts Compatible with bar-plug style mirrors. German made rubber compound latex free UV stable. Right and Left specific grips. Available in 2 sizes. NOT compatible with carbon handlebars Size Offered in Small or Large this is the thickness of the grip in hand. The Small and Large are the same length and have the same wing size. The only difference is the thickness of the grip in hand. Riders with smaller hands are best to choose the Small size. Riders with large hands are an ideal fit to the Large size. Ultimately choice of size is a rider personal preference. Review: Amazing appearance and additional hand positons make this a good purchase for me. I did not realize this at the time of the purchase, but Ergon is a respected bicycle accessories company that is well known for the quality of its ergonomic handlebar grips and bicycle seats. Before ordering you should check and double check the products measurements and the space available on your handlebars. Do not ASSUME that just because you have twist shifters that these will automatically fit right out of the box. In my case, the twist shifters (and therefore the brakes) need to be shifted about an inch to an inch and a half inward. So that is a lot of tedious and annoying work would that normally have to be done in my driveway or my sometimes too warm or sometimes too cold garage. They say hard work never killed anyone, but why risk it? Quite honestly, I don’t want to be bothered. So… Since the entire kit was a bit too big to fit as is. I trimmed my existing rubber grips to approximately the distance between the bar ends and the twist shifters. I mounted the bar ends at an angle that looked comfortable and provided many alternate hand positions while I ride. I used the provided plugs to cover the holes in the handlebar ends. When I use my flat handlebars, my hands are slightly cramped by the bar ends. Having said that, it is still an improvement because of the increase in potential hand positions. I can get in a super-upright position to just enjoy the ride or lean into the handlebars to be slightly more aerodynamic to get a couple of extra MPHs or anything in between depending on how I feel at the moment. Another plus is that my el cheapo rubber grips were constantly working themselves off the handlebar and needed to be worked back on several times in the course of each ride – that is now a thing of the past. Additionally, I really like how professional and polished these look. Ironic, considering that when it comes to mechanical skills, I am completely inept. Once or twice a year, I bring my bike to the local bike shop to get it serviced. The next time I do that, I will ask them to complete the hand grip install. Then, I will add a sentence or two in this review about the actual ergonomic benefits of the grips themselves.
