Each compound is designed to optimise grip and control based on the specific terrain. Variety of casing options: Select from 60 TPI + EXO for general trail use, EXO+ for heavy-duty trail riding, Double Down for enduro rides, or Downhill for maximum protection in gravity and bike park use. Each casing provides the right balance of durability and protection based on your riding style. Tubeless compatibility: Easy tubeless setup eliminates pinch flats. You'll ride worry-free, with fewer interruptions and more focus on the trail. Wide Trail casing: Designed for rims 30-35mm wide, this casing maximises tyre performance, enhancing cornering ability and overall handling. Greg Minnaar approved: Developed with input from a World Cup champion, this tyre ensures professional-grade performance for all riders. Maxxis Technologies (Compounds & Casings):3C Maxx Terra - Maxxis 3C Maxx Terra is an intermediate triple compound configuration used across our mountain tyre line. The 3C Maxx Terra compound offers more traction than 3C Maxx Speed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than Maxx Grip, which makes it ideal for trail riding in all conditions. 3C Maxx Grip - Maxxis 3C Maxx Grip compound uses the stickiest, slowest rebounding rubber we offer in a mountain bike tyre. This high traction compound is the same one used by our top World Cup Downhill and Enduro World Series athletes and is now available in a variety of casing configurations to cover all riders. 3C Maxx Grip + EXO casing = Light duty trail riding in wet/slick conditions 3C Maxx Grip + EXO+ casing = All-around trail riding in wet/slick conditions 3C Maxx Grip + Double Down casing = Enduro racing and e-bikes 3C Maxx Grip + Downhill casing = Downhill racing and long travel e-bikes EXO - EXO is a cut and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of many Maxxis mountain bike and gravel tyres. This densely woven fabric is lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tyre remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for enhanced durability for gravel, XC, and light-duty trail riding. EXO+ - EXO+ is Maxxis medium-duty puncture protection option suitable for all-around trail riding and lightweight e-bikes. We begin with a durable 60 TPI casing, add in our legendary EXO puncture protection layer in the sidewalls, and top it off with a small butyl insert around the bead. The tough casing and EXO material ward off damage from rocks and roots, while the butyl insert protects the tyre from pinch flats and helps prevent rim damage. Double Down (DD) - Double Down (DD) is our casing solution for enduro racing and e-bike use. Two layers of our lightweight 120 TPI casing material are combined with a butyl sidewall insert to create a highly durable tyre with more trail feedback than a Downhill casing tyre. Double Down tyres are marginally lighter than their Downhill counterparts, but it s really the difference in trail feel that sets the two apart. Some riders may prefer the highly damped ride provided by a Downhill casing tyre. Wide Trail (WT) - Wide Trail (WT) construction optimises the tyre s tread layout and profile on today s modern, wider rims. Historically, tyres were designed around older, narrower rims which can create an overly square tyre profile, leading to suboptimal performance. Our Wide Trail (2.40-2.50 width) tyres are optimised for a 35mm inner rim width but are proven to work over a range from 30-35mm inner rim widths, depending on the rider s preference. If you need grip that holds on any terrain, the Assegai delivers. Its rugged construction is made to handle even the most challenging conditions, ensuring a smooth, fast ride. Get ready for confident rides with a tyre trusted by the pros. Enjoy faster descents and better control with the Maxxis Assegai. Review: Mounted on a Ghost 27.5 SL-AMR, is an awesome trail tire! Grip of Exo+/MaxxGrip beyond my skill and daring! My wheels are 27mm inside, and so the profile is a bit rounded - suggest at least 30mm would be best. Definitely a slow rolling tire, but totally predictable and consistent. Mostly loose over soft, rocks and roots here, some hard pack- works for these with confidence-building results. If I was doing more tarmac or find the wear excessive, I’d do MaxxTerra next time, but now, revealing in the tenacious claws this tire has!
