Description: The new Shimano Tiagra 4700 STI levers have seen the biggest changes out of all items in the Tiagra range. These new levers get the look and feel of the higher end 11-speed levers, while sticking with 10-speed internals. As well as the re-designed hood shape the shifters also feature neat under-tape cable routing instead of exiting from the side of lever like previous models. Like the more expensive groups the Tiagra levers provide a shorter shift stroke that delivers what Shimano calls 'lightest and easiest front shifting Shimano has ever made'. The lever is fully adjustable to accommodate different hand sizes via a 10mm screw-type reach adjustment. Braking isn't ignored of course, and the power and feel of the braking has been improved, especially when riding on the hoods. In conjunction with a new cable set, the whole setup is smooth and reliable. Model Number: ST-4700 Optical Gear Display: No Cassette Compatibility: 10 Speed Front Shifting: Double. Review: Considering you can overhaul your road bike to a full Shimano groupset for less than £300, Tiagra is a sound investment. Although classed as 'entry-level', Shimano Tiagra provides great function, feel, looks and value for money. I upgraded my Trek 1.2 aluminium road bike from a mix of FSA, non-branded and Shimano 105/Ultegra components to a full Shimano Tiagra groupset, and it felt like a new bike. In fact, it's never been better! Paired with Tiagra derailleurs and crankset, these Tiagra shifters are sleek, responsive and functional straight out of the box. The shifters, whilst not being as lightweight as 105, Ultegra or Dura-Ace shifters, look great - and work just as well. I think this is where the difference lies. Weight. People would have you believe the lighter the better. However, Tiagra makes you want to go out and ride whatever the weather - so what you lose in weight penalties, you'll gain in, well, gains! The only downside is that I've read these shifters are not compatible with other drivetrains than Tiagra 4700 componentry. So you may have to switch out both derailleurs if you are replacing your shifters. I have not been able to test this, as I run all Shimano Tiagra 4700 components - save for my brake calipers, which are Tektro and I have had no issues with compatibility of these. Can't recommend Shimano Tiagra enough. Sleek, professional looks, and great function at an unbelievable price point.
