Review: I replaced my gear cables with these recently and have found the gear change to be much easier than when the bike was new. Excellent product of high quality. Delivered on time. This purchase was as a replacement spare for the set I already used, so I haven't actually used this set yet, but already know what to expect. 'Shimano' ... what more do you need to know!

Review: Excellent quality product with no instructions for installation. You can find some helpful videos on Youtube or have a local bike shop install it for you, but installing these is not that difficult, and I am posting some tips to help you out because I have done this once or twice before, so I am still learning as I go. I hope this tips will save you time and help you complete the task with no mistakes. -First, make sure you don't lose any of the small pieces (ferrules, end caps, etc.). You will not have spares! -After uninstalling the old cable and housing, keep them just in case you'll have to reuse them in case of damage or missing parts. -You can use the old housing to measure and cut the new housing. Speaking of cutting, I recommend the Park tool wire cutter. -DO NOT cut the cable to measure until you have strung it through the housing and attached it to the derailleurs. The new cables are heat cut at the ends so they will not fray as you thread them through the housing. -Make sure the derailleurs are set to the smallest cogs. (This means the rear one is set to the hardest to pedal and the front one is set to the easiest to pedal). -Use some bike grease (Park makes some good blue stuff) on the part of the cable that goes in the housing. This will ensure that the cable will not bind to the housing even with dirt and liquid getting into it. -This is where I had an issue! Before you secure the cable to the derailleur, MAKE SURE the cable housing is snug in the ferules! When I secured the cable, the housing has come out and when I tightened the cable, the housing split (they are parallel cables that run the length of the housing), and I had issues with shifting until I cut the bent cable and reset the housing in the ferule. -If you have a ROAD set, you have one black plastic ferule. If you look under the flap of the packaging, it explains that this ferule should be placed at the end of the housing that gets set on the chain stay (the lower tube of the frame's rear triangle that is on the drive side--just behind the chain). The black plastic ferule goes here because of the bend the housing has to do to be routed onto the derailleur. -Make the adjusting nut on the rear derailleur is turned to the right them most it can before securing the cable. This will allow proper tension as you shift it down into the bigger gears, and allow you plenty of room to adjust it to the left to tighten the cable and help it shift down more. -Make sure you leave some spare cable after securing it and adjusting the derailleurs in case you have to undo the securing screw and adjust the tension. You'll need some cable to grab onto. -When you are done, double check that the housing and ferules are set, the cable is secure to the derailleurs, and you put the end caps on! The Parke cable cutter actually has a end cap pincher or you can use some needle nose pliers. Finally, take it out for a test ride and bring along the wire cutter and allen wrenches to make adjustments. When I was done and took it for a ride, I was amazed at how smooth and precise the shifts were! It was having a whole new bike! These are high quality Shimano parts, and with some patience and time, you can get your bike shifting like butter! I ended up with maybe 8 inches of spare housing. You do not get a lot of extra materials, but you get what you need!
